How to Survive Long RV Road Trips

Traveling in an RV is an experience unlike any other. It truly gives you and your family the opportunity to experience the best of camping and road-tripping all in one. However, if you are planning a trip to S&H Campground from several states away, there are certain things to keep in mind as you travel. Today on the blog, we’re discussing our top three tips for not only surviving, but making the most of a long RV trip.

1. Create a Pre-departure List

Before you hit the road, there should be several things you check to make sure you will be traveling safely. You need to check all of your fluid levels, the external lights, tire pressure, and set your GPS for the trip. If you are new to owning an RV and aren’t sure how to properly service your RV before each trip, our campground has a full service department that can handle any of your questions or repairs that you may need.

2. Plan Super Simple Meals

If your RV trip is going to span several days, you probably don’t want to spend the whole time eating fast food. Instead, we recommend printing off a few of your favorite simple recipes to keep in a binder in your rig. Remember not to plan anything too difficult or things that need too many ingredients. We’ve found that after a long day of travel, you probably won’t feel like making a complicated meal. Instead, stick to things like burgers on the grill, store-bought pizza, and spaghetti with jarred sauce instead of homemade.

3. Personalize Your RV

When you bought your RV, you probably chose it for its features, space, and the condition it was in. Most RV owners aren’t thrilled with the decor in their home on wheels. Luckily, there are plenty of easy things you can do to your RV that will reflect your own personal style. Things like peel and stick backsplash tiles, appliance covers, and laminate flooring were designed with renters in mind- meaning they are easy to install and remove if you change your mind! These little touches will make long hours spent on the road in your RV much more bearable.

After your long RV road trip, you’ll be ready to relax and unwind at S&H Campground. Located just 20 miles outside of Indianapolis, and owned and operated by the Hine family of nearby Greenfield, Indiana, S&H is proud to provide an impressive camping experience from setup to tear down, thanks to the many amenities and activities you’ll find at our campground.
